Your Personal Color Palette: 8 Colors Read From a Photo

You already carry your own colors: your iris, your hair, your palm, your veins. Load a photo, tap them, and keep a card of your 8 colors on your phone.

No AI: you choose the points, the tool only reads their color. Inspired by David Zyla’s method, as presented by Lisa Routa.

Before you start

What you get, what you need

  • Your card of 8 colorsAn image to keep on your phone, with the name and code of each color.
  • Two photos are enoughYour face in daylight, with no filter or makeup. Your hand, palm open, wrist visible.
  • Your photo stays on your phoneIt’s never sent anywhere: the tool reads it right in your browser.
  • 8 colors
  • No AI
  • Nothing uploaded

Then, two ways to do it, equally good.

  • Guided: the 8 colors of the method, one at a time (8 screens).
  • Free: you choose 8 points on yourself (lips, eyebrows, skin, iris…) and name them. Designed for every skin tone.

This isn’t a season test. The tool doesn’t sort you into a season or a sub-season, and it’s no substitute for a trained eye. It’s a palette built from your own colors. For a likely season, take the free quiz.

How can I check that my photo goes nowhere?

Once the page has loaded, turn off your connection (airplane mode): the tool keeps working, because it needs no server. You can also open the “Network” tab in your browser’s developer tools: no photo goes through it. The one exception: if you leave your email address at the end, that address is sent, and nothing else.

How does it work?

Three steps, a few minutes, no sign-up.

  1. Choose your photos

A photo of your face in daylight, with no filter or makeup. A photo of your hand, palm open, wrist visible. You can load several.

  2. Tap your colors

For each color, a small diagram shows you where to tap and a magnifier helps you aim. The tool reads the average of the pixels in a small disc, not a single pixel.

  3. Keep your card

You download your card of 8 colors as an image, with the name and code of each color. It also stays in your browser so you can find it again.

Your 8 colors, one by one

Each one is read at a precise spot on your body, and each one has a job.

  • Base 1

    your best “black”

Where to read it: the outer ring of your iris.

Your most formal color, the one that gives you a feeling of security and confidence.

  • Base 2

    your best “brown”

Where to read it: the darkest part of your natural hair.

A neutral that’s a little less formal and warmer.

  • Base 3

    your best “khaki”

Where to read it: the lightest part of your natural hair.

A beige-leaning neutral that’s more playful and casual.

  • Your Essence color

    your best “white”

Where to read it: the palm of your hand.

A color that’s ideal for your tops, soft and flattering.

  • Your Romance color

    your best red

Where to read it: your fingertip pad, right after you pinch it.

The color that brings out the most romantic and passionate version of you.

  • Your Dramatic color

    your best “blue-green”

Where to read it: your veins.

The color to wear when you want to make a strong impression.

  • Your Energy color

Where to read it: the darkest part inside your iris (not the outer ring).

The one that recharges you and helps you focus, ideal for the days when you have challenges to take on.

  • Your Calm color

Where to read it: the lightest part inside your iris.

The one that helps you relax and unwind after a hard day.

What this palette tells you, and what it doesn’t

An automatic tool is a first hint. Here there isn’t even anything automatic: the tool guesses nothing and sorts nobody. It reads the color of the point you tap.

It tells you

  • The colors of your body, read from your photo: iris, hair, palm, veins.
  • A starting point for putting an outfit together: solid basics, a top, a detail.
  • That your body is made of several colors, not just one.

It doesn’t tell you

  • Your season or your sub-season. The tool gives none, and none can be worked out from a single trait.
  • That you have to limit yourself to these 8 colors. It’s not a rulebook.
  • What a color does to your face. For that, you have to try it near you, in daylight, or put the question to a trained eye.

What about the photo? The colors in a photo depend on the light, the screen and the camera. Your palette is the one your photo shows: redo it in different light and you’ll see the difference. One more reason never to turn it into a rule.

The adapted version

Free mode: the same idea, open to every skin tone

Lisa Routa puts it plainly: the original method is nice, but it isn’t inclusive enough. For people with deeper skin tones, the palette isn’t always varied enough.

So she adapts it. Instead of 8 fixed spots, you choose 8 points on yourself and name them. The starting idea doesn’t change: your body and your skin are made of several colors. You keep 8 of them.

It’s not a watered-down version. Both ways are offered side by side, in the same place, with the same card at the end.

Personal color palette: your questions

What is a personal color palette?

It’s a set of colors taken from your own features: your iris, your hair, your palm, your veins. This one has 8. It’s not the same thing as a color season. A season (Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter, with 12 sub-seasons) comes from looking at how colors work on you, and the free quiz gives you a first hint of it.

Is my photo sent anywhere?

No. The tool reads your photo in your browser, on your phone or your computer. It’s not uploaded, not saved, and not seen by Lisa or anyone else. You can check: once the page has loaded, turn off your connection and the tool keeps working. The one exception: if you leave your email address at the end, that address is sent, and nothing else.

Is this a color analysis from a photo?

Not in the sense of a test that sorts you. The tool gives you no season and no sub-season: it takes 8 colors from you, at points you choose yourself on your photo. For a likely season, take the free quiz. It’s a first hint, not a verdict.

How do I know what colors suit me?

There’s no shortcut: a color suits you when it lights up your face instead of tiring it, in daylight. This palette is a good starting point, because it starts from your own colors. Then hold fabrics up near your face, or take the free quiz for a likely season.

Why doesn’t the tool use artificial intelligence?

Because automatic photo tools give results that change from one picture to the next, and they decide for you. Here, you choose the points and the tool only reads their color. The result: nothing is uploaded, nobody sorts you into a category, and it costs nothing.

What kind of photo should I take?

Daylight, near a window, with no filter or makeup and your hair off your face. Get close to your eye: on a full face, the iris is only a few pixels wide. The colors in a photo depend on the light, the screen and the camera, so your palette is the one your photo shows. Redo it in different light and you’ll see the difference.

My hair is dyed or white. What should I do?

The method is about your natural hair. If your hair is dyed, look at your roots, or at a photo where you’re wearing your natural color. If your hair is white or gray, it counts: that’s your natural color.

Does it work for every skin tone?

Yes, and that’s the point of free mode: you choose 8 points yourself among your lips, eyebrows, skin, iris, hair, veins, natural nails, teeth and the whites of your eyes. The tool never assumes a skin or eye color.

Is my palette saved?

Only in your browser, on this device: no account, no server. It comes down to eight color codes, never your photo. You can erase it at any time from the tool, or by clearing the site’s data in your browser.

Is the tool free?

Yes, and there’s no sign-up. The email box at the end is optional: your card is yours, with or without an email address.

Does it work for men too?

Yes, the tool is the same. The 8 colors are read the same way, and free mode works just as well.
