Where does peach sit between orange and red, and how do its four shades differ?
Peach is a very light, muted orange. On the color wheel it lives in the orange stretch between red and yellow, and part of the family tips further toward red.
Peach and Peach Puff stay orange. Apricot and Crayola Peach lean red-orange. All four are very light and muted, so the gaps are small, but they show once the fabric is near a face.
From lightest to darkest, the order is Peach, Peach Puff, Apricot, Crayola Peach. By intensity the order changes. Crayola Peach is the most intense, then Peach, then Apricot, and Peach Puff is the quietest of the four.
The word on the label won’t settle it. A very light, muted orange shifts under a warm bulb or on a different weave, so judge the piece in your hand.
Why do the Autumns and two Springs keep peach, and the Winters don’t?
Peach is a pale orange, so the warm palettes take it. That’s five of the twelve: Light Spring, Warm Spring and the three Autumns. Five more hold only a neighbor of it, and two have nothing like it.
Start with the ones who keep it. Light Spring is very light and low in contrast, so Crayola Peach sits easily there, matched with Peach. Soft Autumn is soft and desaturated, so Apricot is its version, matched with Faded Peach.
Warm Spring and Warm Autumn wear plain Peach, matched with Golden Ivory and Cream. Deep Autumn is dark and high in contrast, yet it keeps Peach, matched with Cream, as the pale note against all that depth.
Now the near misses. “Close” means a neighbor of peach is in the palette, not peach itself. Soft Summer is very soft and grayed, so Peach Puff, the quietest of the four, is its version, and the neighbor is Off-White.
True Winter is saturated with high contrast. Bright Winter is very bright with very high contrast. Neither palette holds peach itself, and their closest colors are pale and icy: Icy Lemon for True Winter, Icy Yellow for Bright Winter.
How do you give peach something to stand against?
All four shades are very light and muted. Alone near the face, peach has little weight of its own, so a partner gives it an edge.
Want it calmer? Put cream or taupe between peach and your face.
Want it sharper? Let navy or denim blue sit beside it. Try each for a few seconds and keep the one that leaves your face easiest to read.
The shade matters too. Crayola Peach is the darkest and the most intense, so it holds the space under the chin better than Peach does. Peach Puff, the quietest, needs something firmer next to it.
The three outfits on this page follow one logic: one neutral, one accent. Peach can be the accent or the base, and in my view the look works when one neutral does the heavy lifting. For a fourth outfit, start from the peach blouse and cream pants, then add a taupe layer and one small touch of gold.
Which two colors drown peach, and what do Cool Summer and Deep Winter wear instead?
Orange first. It sits too close to peach in tone, so the two blur into one wash and neither reads. Red is the opposite trouble: two strong colors competing. Peach is very light and muted, so beside a red it loses the argument.
For Cool Summer, nothing in the palette resembles peach. The closest color is Soft White, a stand-in and not a match. In that palette it goes with Navy and Cool Periwinkle.
Deep Winter is different: its own avoid list names peach itself. The closest color in its palette is Pure White, again a stand-in, and it goes with Black and Plum there.
If you love peach anyway, keep it away from your face. A skirt, a bag or a pair of pants can still be peach.

Questions
Peach: your questions
Does peach go with gold?
Yes, in small doses. A gold heel or a small piece of jewelry finishes a peach outfit, because it adds shine without bringing in a second big color. Keep it to one touch and let peach carry the color. If you want more gold than that, hold it beside the peach first.
Which version of peach is mine?
Your sub-season decides it. Start with the free color analysis quiz. It names a probable season and leans toward a sub-season, which is a first hint rather than a verdict. Then find your sub-season’s entry on this page and test that version in daylight.
Can I wear peach if my sub-season says no?
Yes, away from the face. A peach skirt, bag or pair of pants does no harm. Near the face, use the stand-in: Soft White for Cool Summer, Pure White for Deep Winter. If yours is one of the five with a neighbor, try that neighbor first.
Is apricot the same as peach?
Close, not identical. Apricot belongs to the peach family, but it leans red-orange where Peach leans orange. Peach is the lightest of the four shades, and Apricot comes third. Soft Autumn is the sub-season that wears Apricot, matched with Faded Peach.
Is peach the same as coral?
No, they’re two colors. Peach is a very light, muted orange, and even its red-leaning shades, Apricot and Crayola Peach, only lean toward red-orange. How coral compares, and which of the two each sub-season wears, is on the coral or peach comparison page.
