How far does green stretch between yellow and blue?
Green sits in the middle of the color wheel, with yellow on one side and blue on the other, and this family uses the whole span. Green and Fern Green sit in the center and lean neither way. Kelly Green and Apple Green pull toward yellow. Jungle Green pulls toward blue.
Lightness and intensity sort them a second way. Apple Green is the lightest and Fern Green the darkest. Kelly Green is the most intense of the five, so it asks the most of a face. Fern Green is the quietest.
A tag that says “green” can mean any of these. Dye, weave and the lights of the shop each change what you see, so trust the piece on you, not the label.
Why does one sub-season wear Apple Green and another Fern Green?
Green sits in the palette of Warm Spring, Bright Spring, Warm Autumn and Bright Winter. Warm Spring and Bright Spring wear Apple Green, matched with Apple Green and Bright Apple. Bright Winter wears it too, matched with Acid Apple Green.
Those palettes are warm or very bright, and a vivid yellow-green keeps up with them. Warm Autumn goes deeper: Fern Green, matched with Moss Green. It’s very warm, rich and slightly muted.
The other eight hold a close neighbor, a little paler, deeper or duller. Light Spring has Fresh Apple Green. Light Summer has Seafoam Green, Cool Summer has Soft Emerald, and Soft Summer has Grayed Turquoise. The Summers lean toward blue-green, and the softer the palette, the more gray in its neighbor.
Soft Autumn has Khaki and Deep Autumn has Bronze Green. Deep Winter is dark and saturated, and True Winter is very cool and saturated. Both hold Emerald as their neighbor.
No sub-season is left without a green nearby.
Where should a bright green sit, and what quiets a deep one?
Loud greens want room. Kelly Green and Apple Green are the most intense in the family, so keep them a step from your face. Pants carry them well. Or let a light neutral sit at the neckline.
Deeper greens take the neckline more easily. Fern Green is the darkest and quietest, and Jungle Green is the next quietest, with a lean toward blue.
The three outfits shown share one logic: one neutral, one accent. Green is either the accent or the base, never both at once. You can build a fourth from the partners. Try a Fern Green blazer over a white blouse, with chocolate pants.
My advice: when two colors compete, give the face the quieter one. Let the loudest piece sit lowest.
Why do red and olive green spoil green, and what if yours is only a neighbor?
Red and green both demand to be looked at. The eye jumps between them and the face gets forgotten. Olive green fails the other way. It sits too close in tone, and the two greens blur into one patch.
“Close” means your palette doesn’t hold this exact green but holds a neighbor of it. Wear the neighbor near your face: Khaki for Soft Autumn, Bronze Green for Deep Autumn, Seafoam Green for Light Summer. Deep Winter and True Winter can look at emerald green, the palette color they’re matched with.
In my view, the green you love still has a place. Put it below the waist or on a bag, and let a palette color sit by your face.

Questions
Green: your questions
What color shirt goes with green pants?
Cream or white. Both keep the top quiet, so the pants stay the accent. Denim blue works for a casual shirt. If your green is a bright one, a quieter top matters even more, because the pants already carry the color.
Which shade of green is mine?
Four sub-seasons hold green and eight hold a close neighbor, so find yours first. The free quiz asks ten questions, needs no sign-up and points to a likely season. Treat it as a starting guess, then hold the green near your face.
Can I wear green if it isn’t in my palette?
Yes. Keep your palette’s closest color at the neckline, such as Khaki, Seafoam Green or Emerald, and let the green you love show up in pants or a coat. Color serves your goal, and sometimes the green you want isn’t the one your palette lists.
Does green go with brown?
Yes. Chocolate is one of the partners, and it pairs well with denim blue and green in the same outfit. Keep the brown low, in pants or a bag, so the green is the first color anyone reads. Camel is the lighter brown that also works.
Can you wear green with blue?
Yes. Navy and denim blue are both partners. Navy suits the office, denim blue the weekend. With a blue-leaning green like Jungle Green, pick a blue of clearly different depth so the two don’t merge into one block.
